Two Dreams is seeking an experienced substance abuse counselor. This counselor will join an interdisciplinary team of professionals to improve the lives of patients seeking treatment for chemical dependence.

Position Summary:

A substance abuse counselor is assigned to each patient and acts as their primary therapist. Substance abuse counselors facilitate, analyze, and document group, individual, and family sessions as a primary responsibility. Additionally, substance abuse counselors coordinate with the clinical team to update treatment plans, and determine the necessity of additional treatment modalities. Substance abuse counselors are expected to build strong relationships with each patient, with trust being a central component of that relationship. Substance abuse counselors are also expected to assist with administrative functions, including business/relationship development to ensure effective organizational operations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • North Carolina counseling licensure (LPC, LCPC) and substance abuse credentials (CADC, CRADC).


  • Program Development: Our Team is looking for a therapist to be a leader and take ownership of the program
  • Counsel patients, primarily in group sessions to assist them in dealing with substance use disorders. Individual session will be scheduled as needed
  • Interact with clients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and action planning in order to promote emotional peace, physical well-being, and personal productivity
  • Lead group, individual, and family process sessions.
  • Track, analyze, and record patient progress with respect to treatment plan goals
  • Modify ongoing treatment plans to comply with changes in patient status.
  • Collaborate with clinical director, program manager, case managers, etc. to plan or coordinate treatment, drawing on evidence-based practices, clinical experience, and patient needs
  • Leverage networking resources and opportunities to build a strong client base
  • Educate patient and their support network about substance use disorders and mental illness
  • Update the patient's support network (if consent is given) on a weekly basis regarding the patient's status and progress
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences, patient community meetings, clinical meetings and program meetings.
  • Provide patients or family members with information about addiction issues and about available services or programs, making appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Assist with new patient orientation.
  • Intervene as an advocate for patients to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Formulate and coordinate Continuing Care planning and complete clinical discharge summary
  • Assist clinical and administrative staff to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of Two Dreams as a treatment provider.
  • Maintain Clinical Licensure/Certification, current clinical competence and uphold professional code of ethics
  • Adhere to Two Dreams drug-free workplace policy
  • Abstain from alcohol, nicotine, illicit drug, and/or other substance use while on duty, on call or on Employer's premises
  • Keep up-to-date American Red Cross certifications in First Aid and CPR.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with first aid and CPR training, and good judgment
  • Preserve client anonymity and confidentiality at all times
  • Other duties as Employer may assign


  • Candidate must possess knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of substance abuse in conjunction with behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices required for providing patient services. This includes patient needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services offered.
