The Three Phases
The Three Phases are a naturally occurring progression of early treatment and recovery. They are not time limited and clients can move into and out of them depending on clinical factors of treatment.
We help you establish safety and trust with your peers and our addiction treatment professionals. It is important for clients to establish trust and feel supported in order to move forward in their recovery. In this phase, healthy rituals are essential. Clients participating in rituals, experience a new self-confidence which provides the foundation for therapeutic work in the phases of treatment to follow. Exploration of new behaviors, awareness of thought processes, tools, and coping skills are key components to establishing an ongoing framework for living. Honesty and being able to tell your story is important in this phase.
Our therapeutic staff helps guide you to discover new aspects of yourself, and learn to honor your thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. Transparency is essential in this phase of treatment. By exposing negative core beliefs, clients begin the process of forming a healthier sense of self. Benefits of this therapeutic work initially experienced by the client are a reduction in shame and guilt. Introspection, which assists in connecting your thoughts to your feelings, is important in this phase. In this phase, clients typically share on a deeper level, and work on issues fueling their addiction. Clients learn to act and not simply react to their internal and external world. Clients begin an insight oriented process of examining their thoughts and feelings behind their actions. In this phase, clients become ready for the Looking Out phase of treatment when they have demonstrated an ability to acknowledge their addiction, commit to their recovery in a heartfelt manner, and reduce or eliminate the inducements to use in the future.
Now, you are empowered. After giving you the tools to succeed, we encourage you to look outward and help decide what you need to do in order to achieve a lifelong recovery process. Clients go beyond the surface, to work on managing cravings, managing relationships, and reintegrating into their next living environment. In this phase, clients have the opportunity to gain practice of newly gained skills while in a supportive environment. Clients are making a plan of what to do and what not to do after primary treatment to continue to build on the gains made while at Two Dreams. The Professional staff at Two Dreams will guide clients to utilize strengths and positive attributes revealed in the previous phases of treatment, and assist clients in living their lives in recovery to their full potential.
The Seven Dimensions
These seven dimensions are part of our holistic approach to addiction treatment. We believe that this process fosters a well-rounded and self-sufficient individual.
The concept of abstinence not only means not having alcohol or drugs in your system, but also means eliminating the things that cause dysfunction in your life. Abstinence could include negative thoughts, codependent behaviors, self-defeating communication styles, or other individual issues that hold people back from their highest self.
The community milieu is a crucial part of the treatment experience. Healthy bonding and being accountable to others that understand is vital in working through issues that keep people stuck in unhealthy patterns. Knowing that support is there for you when you need it, is a comfort when working on difficult issues.
Professional Guidance is one of the most important aspects of treatment at Two Dreams. Our staff of passionate and dedicated professionals only want the best outcomes for all of our clients. Many of our staff members have overcome their own challenges, and can use their own experience as well as their clinical training to help clients at Two Dreams.
A review of past and current medications by our Medical Director is important for ensuring that the medications are still needed, are effective, and that there are no interactions between medications that could be of concern. Guidance is given throughout the treatment episode and clients have the opportunity to discuss any issue with our physician.
How you fuel your body is important, and nutrition needs are individual to each person. Balance is essential when treating individuals suffering from the disease of addiction. Clients start their day by enjoying a 4 ounce smoothie which awakens their bodies in a healthy and natural manner. Three healthy balanced meals and two snacks are provided daily. CEO Dr. Andrea Barthwell developed the food program for individuals in early recovery of the disease of addiction. The consistency of healthy food intake provides homeostasis in the brain, and assists in healing the proper firing of neurons and synapses necessary for the recovery from addiction.
Exercise also provides healthy neurological activity in the brain for individuals in the early stages of recovery from chemical dependence. Empirical evidence suggests that living a lifestyle, which incorporates a healthy exercise routine, can be as effective as anti-depressant medication in battling shame, guilt, as well as depressive type symptoms. Chemically dependent individuals often experience strong anxiety type symptoms when in early recovery; exercise is a proven way to reduce these anxiety type symptoms. Two Dreams utilizes the component of exercise to achieve mental peace instead of physical growth.
Rituals and structure provide clients with the ability to gain self-confidence, as well as self-respect. Clients begin each day with a “sun salutation” at the beach; the remaining day is structured in a way that benefits the client’s growth in recovery. Insight gained in group therapy, individual therapy, as well as 12-Step meetings, are all apparent to clients at two Dreams. Secondary gains, which are often overlooked, are the sense of structure and accountability that client’s begin to feel while in treatment. Self-respect, accountability, and responsibility assist in fostering a new sense of self which correlates to a healthy recovery identity.

Addiction no longer governs the client’s feelings, thoughts, or behaviors. The addicted individual sheds the feeling of uselessness and hopelessness. New tools discovered through the Two Dreams three phases of treatment replace feelings of self-doubt, insecurity, and fear. The treatment process at Two Dreams allows the individual to not regret their past, nor fear their future. The client is finally able to exhale and enjoy the present. Tools gained while in treatment allow the client to handle situations which they failed in the past. Relationships have been healed through clinical measures with friends and family. Most importantly, the relationship with self provides the client with a means to understand that whatever is brought about in his or her life, the client will be alright, peace has been achieved.

Two Dreams recognizes that recovery is continual growth. Along the path of the treatment process, Two Dreams Professionals will acknowledge strengths which can be utilized for the client to live to their potential in recovery. More importantly, clients will be able to accept and acknowledge these assets without the self-doubt and insecurities skewing their self-perspective. Clients are encouraged to utilize these strengths and to continue their growth from the gains made while in treatment. Clients continuing care recommendations include fostering and utilizing these strengths in a manner which allows the client to maintain long-term sobriety while living to their fullest potential.
